NorthWest Best: My Hubs Top 5 Moments In Seattle Sports History
63
Enjoy the ride with me folks.
These moments are only in a order because I have to put them in a order. These are my 5 favorite plays in Seattle sports history. I'm going to try and cover some of every generation of fans, but I'll get alot of more recent stuff in there because, hey, that is what I have witnessed myself. I can't help how ingrained these teams are in me. Sometimes you can't do anything else but sit inside and watch. Hope everyone enjoys the read, and thank you so much to those who follow!
Honorable Mentions
Here are two I just couldn't put on a top 5, the first because someone I know might be in it, and the latter because that team will get on a whole other list one of these days. Don't take it to heart, I just want to share the rest.
Sonics Edge Pacers
I just couldn't help myself. One of the best basketball games I ever saw live, and trust me, I saw a lot of them. Did I mention I was there? Oh ok, anyway, I am the big guy there behind the hoop in the yellow, just sayin.
The Mariners 1995 Playoffs
Only because I could fill the list with moments from this season. It makes me really sad to hear Dave Neihaus on here with out tearing up, knowing I'll never get to hear him live or ever have kids that could here him live. His passion for the game is contagious and you can't help but miss him. My mom made sure I was allowed to stay up past my bedtime, I was 7 at the time, so I could see the ALDS every night. You couldn't have met a happier kid. We love those guys!!!
5) Ken Griffey Jr. Retires
I know that him going was a long time coming, but seeing him retire was the closing of a chapter in my life. Ken Griffey Jr. was the kid every baseball coach hated, because every kid wanted to be 'The Kid'. His swing was something to behold, when it was him swinging. He was probably pound for pound the best athlete in the league for a few years. Ken was the only reason my Pops ever let me wear my hat backwards. He was the guy that got me free to stay up past my bed time, because my parent knew how special a player he was, and they knew how much I love baseball. Baseball runs through my blood, and I can thank Jr. for a little of that. Ken Griffey coming back to Seattle was not a popular move in the end for some, but I couldn't help but be mesmerized by him every time the old Kid strolled to the plate. That is what a once in a generation player does, and that is why MY Babe Ruth will always be Ken Griffey Jr, aka 'Jr.', aka 'The Kid, aka 'Kid Sensation'. Oh ya, and don't forget, future first ballot Hall of Fame-er.
Thank you so much for the memories Jr.!

4) The Seattle SuperSonics Depart Seattle
My favorite team to watch, the Seattle Supersonics, may or may not come back, but I can't forget them. Not a Top moment because I enjoyed the passing, but because I will never give up the love for that team. I've passed on my two cents about that in previous hubs, so I'll lay it to rest. Lets give them a RIP tribute for now, and we'll see if they come around again. Oh and my season ticket money would be nice too, ya know just for the holidays.
3) Seattle Seahawks Go to the Superbowl
Though the finale left a bitter tast in my mouth (hence the ranking), the season leading up to the Superbowl was memorable. The game itself...just as memorable, but for some slightly different reasons. Some of it I think is just, the calls looked pretty horrible to me. Though now I look back and realize that had the Hawks just played a better football game, some of those penalties wouldn't have been so crucial. Not every penalty was wrong that game, and not every mistake was a penalty, IE as dropped pass or 4. Anyway, a great season to see and Seahawks history is what we got to watch.
2) The Mariners Win 116
My oh my, we couldn't lose. Almost literally. The M's didn't lose a single series all season till the playoffs. It's hard to imagine what could derail a team like that, but them Damn Yankees always seem to mess things up. One of my favorite baseball seasons I've viewed to date.
Break Yo NECK
1) Beast Quake 2010
My favorite play, or moment in Seattle history (other than any in the series aforementioned) has to be Marshawn Lynch's 67 yard touchdown run to seal the deal against the New Orleans Saints during the 2010 playoffs. The Hawks may have been the worst team to make it to the playoffs, ever, but they sure showed they came to play, and what was to come in the following seasons, Beast Mode.

Hey, this is a pretty awesome hub you just started here. Most of the vids were great but let me say that Luke Ridnour was very underrated. Kid got game. I've always wanted to visit the city so it was great hearing it from a sports fan's perspective. Tough vote here but I went with the departure of the team. That was cold.
