Hip-Hop Top 5: NorthWest Edition I
62
Mack said it best, our city is filthy.
For years, I have been going to Seattle hip-hop shows and have marveled at the artists that many never get the pleasure of hearing. Some of the music around here is very impassioned, it speaks straight to the soul, about the things that many my age growing up in the Seattle area had to deal with. Up and down the board these guy's have proven they can spit. So here I bring the Top 5 Songs you SHOULD be listening to, according to me.
Macklemore: Make The Money
This guy is my personal favorite of the group (not hating on the rest of you, it's just what it is). From "The Town" to "Otherside" Mack has learned how to bring his story and touch all that have heard his music. Through his struggle of personal consumption issues and drug addiction, the guy has came out on top everytime. Touring the world now, this guy is becoming untouchable. I hate bandwagon fans, but you better get on board before it looks bad not knowing who Macklemore is.
Grieves: Bloody Poetry
One of my first "underground" hip hip mix tapes I bought came from the hands of Grieves. I've been hooked on his music and the Seattle underground ever since. He's got a darkness inside of him that nobody can mimic, and he is always real, no matter how the light shines on him. Bloody Poetry is a perfevt example of Grieves pulling us into his world.
Neema: 4 A.M. Phone Calls
Neema can spit with the best of them, and he can get FAST. No matter the track, Neema always sticks to his machine gun assault of lyrics to your brain, booze and women included. The dude delivers, he's original, and is always a good kick back artist to listen to, at least in my experience.
Cunninglynquists- Close Your Eyes
Macklemore, Grieves, and Geologic all on the same track? It's a mix that I can't get enough of. The music speaks for it's self here.
Blue Scholars ft. Macklemore: Tommy Chong
One of my favorite Blue Scholars tracks. These guys are lyricists to the max, pair that up with Macklemore, this song turns into a piece of art work. Thanks for the read and listen everyone!
Honorable Mention- Grieves ft Grynch and Krukid: Three Bad Men
Like I said before, I have been listening to Grieves for a while. Grynch and Krukid are up and coming, especially Grynch with his track coming out "All I Wanna Do". Should be a couple of artists to look out for in 2012!!

Yeah, he's amazing. Keep up the great work!
well sweetie I leave that with you for now ??
Excellent article. I didn't get up on much Seattle hip hop until this year. I heard "Bloody Poetry" by Grieves on "Together Apart" Disc 1, which is one of the best albums I've heard this year. I also didn't get up on Blue Scholars until this year, and Cinemetropolis was another one of my favorite albums from this year. I've been a huge fan of Cunninlynguists for a few years, so I've heard "Close Your Eyes" several times before. It's great that you are helping bring exposure to the Seattle scene. I live in Texas, so if it wasn't for the Internet, I probably wouldn't know about these artists. By the way do you listen to Common Market? Alright I'm done writing lol. Great article though. Voted up.
I have heard of Cunninglynguists before. I have to say, I am not up so much on hip hop from the Seattle area as I am much more involved in the East Coast, Dirty South and even some West Coast hip hop. But good music is good music. Nice hub, voted up. :)

I love the Macklemore one. Thanks for sharing. My husband is from Seattle. I also love Jake One, but he's been doing more mainstream stuff lately. Great hub! Voted up, etc.
